Race report by Janelle Hubbard

(Saturday, July 21, 2007 - Richmond, VA) The course was a 45 miles road race, on a 15 mile loop with nice smooth country roads with 1 power climb and several long false flat sections.

The first lap was of the women’s 40+ race was a moderate pace to get a feel for the riders in the field and who will be the major players. On the second lap, the attack began one after another but nothing would stick. The 3rd and final lap of the race on the power climb, a major attack was put in narrowing the field down to just 6 riders. The 6 riders in the break began to work together for about 2 miles when another hard attack was put in narrowing the field down to just 3 riders. We all began to work together in a pace lane to gain time on the rest of the riders until we were out of their sight. We eventually had gain over a minute on the chasers.

With about 400 meters from the finish the games began with each of us watching each other waiting for someone to go. Once we hit the 200m mark, the sprint started and I finished a very CLOSE 2nd, winning the silver metal.
