District 20 Championships: 16th Annual Jason Gundel Wilmington Classic

On Sunday we drove up to Wilmington, DE for our district’s Criterium Championship. Rain was predicted for the day. Some of us have a standard to never race (or ride) in the rain but what an enthusiastic team can do for you. All five Mid-Atlantic Kenda girls lined up at the start, wet roads and drizzle, however, ready for a race an event that would turn into a crash-fest.
Our comments:
Janelle: “I went down on lap 4 in turn 4. I hit the white stripe in the road and my back tire swung out from under me. I had a free lap but decide not to take it.”
Chris: “I was behind another girl on her crash, got around that. Then Janelle hit the deck right behind me and by the next lap or so and I decided to stop.”
Marni: “Yes, you know you are enjoying your race team when you drive 2 hours to race in bad weather, feel like crap the whole race, hit traffic on the way home and still think you had a nice day :). – Thanks gang!–.”
Heidi: “Thanks to all of you and great job to the team. Thank you to for tending to my wounded body and my wounded mind after crashing. Also thanks to Marjan for the love socks. I love our team!”
Marjan: “I tried to stay up front to avoid crashes. After a (too) long solo dangling off the front of the pack –but cashing in on all the primes– (thanks Heidi and Marni for blocking & Janelle and Chris for the cheering), I ended up finishing 3rd and I hope I brought the wounded team some joy with a placing, $$ and primes.
