(Saturday/Sunday October 6 and 7 - Pinellas Park, FL) This weekend I finished up my final Florida Point Series race in Pinellas Park, Florida. I already knew I had won (the series) but I wanted to place my stamp on it with a win. Saturday’s course was a 2 mile windy circuit with shady oak lined streets. The beginning of the race started with a few attacks from assorted different riders, however nothing stayed away because riders had fresh legs and a lot of race ahead of us. This continued until I attacked about half way through, causing a four woman break that remained until the end. We worked together for the most part wanting to make sure we stayed away until the last lap when we jockeyed for position. With the finish line in sight a lady came around for the sprint, I jumped on her wheel then quickly came around winning the race!
Later that evening the Florida Road Cycling Association (FRCA) held an awards banquet. I received 2nd place for the Florida Cup, a selection of the finest venues that includes State Championship races, 1st place for Florida Time Trial Series, and 1st overall for the Florida Points Series (women 1-3). Also, TEAM KENDA TIRE won the Women’s TEAM overall for the Florida points!!!! I am sending the plaque to Paul Forsythe, Director, Team Kenda Tire.
Sunday morning I raced again. The course was the same tree lined roads except it was extended slightly to make it a road course. The filed stayed mostly together until the fourth lap. On the fourth of the six laps race Christi-An made an attack causing a gap. The field pulled hard to chase her down. When they caught her I launched out making them chase again and causing a break of six riders. There were a few attacks made within the group but most of the time we worked in a rotating pace line. It came down to the sprint finish when I came in second coming within inches from first.
It was a great season ender and I am so looking forward to 2008!!
